Of the many types of food we eat, there are those that require the use of lots of chemicals to produce and protect from contamination post harvest. For example there are those foods that are prone to infection from many pests and diseases throughout during the growing process and as such, need to be sprayed regularly with fungicides, herbicides and pesticides to prevent infestation.

There are also many food produce such as apples, that can be attacked after they are harvested or picked from the tree or plant. Further to this many food items are able to be stored for long periods of time after harvest before being sold to the consumer. So to protect the food from pest and diseases, they are sprayed with post harvest sprays, waxes and other substances.
