Have They Found a Cure For Helicobacter Pylori?

Do you suffer from Helicobacter pylori ? Did you get treated and then years later its back again? Well there may be hope. Researchers in Australia have learnt more about this organism and hope to develop new treatment soon. This bacteria creates a protective coating that helps protect it from antibiotic treatments. If left untreated in can lead to ulcers of the stomach and in some cases cancer. As treatment with antibiotics destroys the normal flora in your gut it then leads to other disorders and that is why the researchers believe once they can control the protective layers the bacteria produces they may find natural treatment to eradicate the pathogen. An extract from the article is below and for the full article- click on the link at the bottom for more information:-

“Once we understand how the H. pylori sticks in the stomach, we could screen thousands of different natural products that might inhibit the stickiness of the bacteria,” Professor Marshall said. “Maybe we wouldn’t even need antibiotics at all.”

H. pylori causes ulcers in around 10 per cent of people infected by it and those with more active immune systems are more likely to be affected. Although a relatively small proportion of the population suffer from ulcers, the bacteria is responsible for a more dangerous health issue. H. pylori is classified as a class 1 carcinogen in Australia, which means it is proven to cause cancer, even in those who do not experience ulcers. This means Helicobacter needs to be treated in people, even if they do not feel unwell, Professor Marshall said.”
