Did you ever think that you should be cleaning your pet’s teeth? In an article by the RSPA, an Australian community-based charity, providing animal care and protection services, there is information on why it is important to care for your animal’s teeth.
Like in humans, if the teeth are not cared for properly, it can lead to bad breath and disease, which in some cases can lead to other health problems if not treated. I can’t image trying to clean my cat’s teeth, as she is very vicious if I go anywhere near her mouth. I read recently of incidences, where people have become very ill after being bitten by their pet puppy. Some of the bacteria found in dogs mouth are very pathogenic to humans. So maybe we should take the extra time to clean their teeth. Teeth cleaning also prevents gum disease and other conditions occurring as the pet ages.
Healthy teeth should be white with pink gums and not yellow or brown with red gums. It is advised that you can purchase animal toothbrushes or use soft ones using a animal tooth paste. The best way to clean their teeth is in a soft circular motion over each tooth. If you have trouble they advise that a vet may be able to supply gels, dental chews, toys or other water additives to make to clean easier. Another way to help clean your pets teeth is by giving them raw bones, not cooked, to chew on.
If you see your pet licking their lips frequently, salivating or having trouble chewing, it may be already too late, as they may already have gum disease and as such may need to visit the vet for a clean. For more information about caring for your animals teeth check out the link below:-
