What is Wrong with my Indoor Plant?

Help!!!  There is something Wrong with my House Plant!

How do you work out what is wrong with your indoor plant?  Is it a cultural problem or some pest or disease? The first steps are to have a good look at your plant and ask yourself some questions?

1. Look for any visible pests or insects. Can you see any pests under the leaves or in the joints of leaves and stems? White fluffy spots could be Mealy bugs?

2. Has the plant been over watered or under watered? Has it been sitting in water for any length of time or has it dried out due to lack of water?

 3. Is the plant suffering from root rot? Are the roots nice and white or are the black/brown and mushy?

4.  Is the plant receiving enough sunlight or is it kept in a dark room?

 5. Is there any humidity in the room or is it hot and dry? Do you have the air conditioner on for any length of time?

 6. Do the leaves have any sunken dark spots or a black or white powdery substance over the leaves?  Look for signs of bacterial or fungal diseases!

 7. Are there cob- webs between the leaves and little red dots in the webs. This could be a sign of red spider mites.
